British Chess Championship 2011

Mickey Adams has won the British Championship sponsored by Darwin Strategic Limited after a dramatic tie-break playoff with Nigel Short. The 89th Championships took place at Ponds Forge, International Sports Centre in Sheffield.

Both Adams and Short finished the 11-round event with 8½/11 which then required a 2-game play-off to decide the title.

After a draw in the first rapid game, Adams won the second to successfully defend his title and claim the championship.

Jovanka Houska also defended her women's title after finishing the best placed woman on 7/11, making it her fourth British title.

Bobby Fischer comes to Mold !

The new film "Bobby Fischer against the World" has been released, and is being shown at limited cinemas at limited times around the country.
Our nearest showing is our very own Theatre Clwyd on October 6th.

So the two Gs make it through. Gelfand vs Grishuk begins on Thursday, a 6 game match to decide the next opponent for Anand. After the way these matches have gone, I don't think Anand will be quaking in his boots. What do people think about the format for these candidates matches?
