World Chess Championship Game 10

Today's game was DRAWN, meaning Magnus Carlsen is the new WORLD CHAMPION. It must be said that it was a good game today, and fought to the bitter end.

World Chess Championship Game 9

It seems the match is all but over after Carlsen WINS again to take a 3 game lead with 3 games to play. To Anand's credit, he came out fighting and had his chances, but Magnus defended accurately and Anand overreached himself and eventually lost when his attack fizzled out.

Another DRAW, and a rather boring game as well! If Anand is to have any chance, he will have to show greater fighting spirit with only four games to go.

World Chess Championship Game 7

Yesterday's seventh game was DRAWN. Anand had his second white in a row, but neither player was able to secure any advantage, and the peace treaty was signed after 32 moves. At least Anand has stopped his losing streak, but he only has five games to claw back his deficit, and only two with the white pieces.

Carlsen WINS again!!

This time Carlsen was black. It was another long game, but Anand made a number of small innaccuracies that ultimately meant he lost a rook and pawn endgame.

World Chess Championship Game 5

Carlsen WINS.

Carlsen had white, and gained a small but useful advantage. Anand was on the back foot, but could have held for a draw,but 45. ... Rc1+ was a mistake, and from there on, carlsen looked on course for the full point.

World Chess Championship Game 4

Another DRAW, but another fight. his time it was Magnus Carlsen who came close to taking the point from the reigning world champion, but was ultimately unsuccessful. No wins as yet, but the competition is certainly hotting up.

The third game was another DRAW, but this time there was real fight. Anand, with black, came close to getting a decisive advantage over the challanger, Carlsen.

The second game of this year's world championship was again a DRAW. Challenger Magnus Carlsen had black and responded to Vishy Anand's 1. e4 with the Caro Kann. He has obviously been following my games closely!

The world Chess Championship between challenger Magnus Carlsen (Norway) and reigning champion Viswanathan Anand (India) began this morning.

Game 1 had Carlsen with white and was DRAWN after 16 moves.

Junior News

On Saturday 1st June, 2 juniors from Mold & Buckley Chess Club played against a strong team from South East England at Monmouth. Well done to Ifan Rathbone-Jones and Macey Taylor for taking part. Macey won both her games!

On Wednesday 5th June, our club juniors had their own competition along the lines of our annual "Hanson Extravaganza". The top three were:

1.   Macey Taylor.
2=  Ifan Rathbone-Jones.
2=  Will Casey.

John Coleby Memorial Shield

At last night's AGM, youngster Ifan Rathbone-Jones was awarded the John Coleby Memorial Shield for his excellent results in the 2012/13 season. He is also due to play for Wales youngsters against England in the coming weeks. Well done, Ifan.

New Venue and Time

From the new year, Mold and Buckley Chess Club is returning to the Ex-Servicemen's Club, 77 Wrexham Street, Mold, CH7 1HQ.

Also the club will be meeting on WEDNESDAYS, 6.30 pm for juniors, and 7.30 for the main club.
