Club Championship

In order to help players in the club championship get their games played, we have changed the format somewhat. All games played so far will still count in the new format.

We have divided the pool of players into two groups to play in which each player should play each other player. The two winners will play a final in early May. This means that you can arrange to play any of your opponents, not just the one for that month. This should give you greater scope to get matches played. Ignore any previous pairings you had that have not been played.

It is your responsibility to arrange matches with your opponents. The more of your games you get played, the more points you score, and the better chance you have of winning the title!

The scoring in the league will be 3 points for a win, two for a draw and one for a loss. This favours players who play but lose over those who do not play their games.

Games are 35 moves in 75 minutes, and then a further 15 minutes to finish the game. All games will be sent to ECF for grading.

You will also see a number of BYEs in the draw. This is to allow new players to join in without messing up the system. That means you may have to play a BYE at some point after all. I will try to let you know, but keep an eye on the noticeboard or website.

Results and tables will appear on the club noticeboard and the website at bmchess.blogspot.com.

Please let me know all results.

Underpromotion

The ending of this recent game is interesting. If black promotes to a queen, it is mate for white. However, if he promotes to a knight (as he did), black mates!

Buckley Mold 2 3-2 Wallasey 5

Buckley Mold 2 beat Wallasey 5 in the Wirral League division 2. It is good to see a number of new faces in the team as well.
