Dave Aldridge

We are sad to report the death of Dave Aldridge, a regular at the chess club and captain of a number of teams for many years. He died on Monday 18th September, and his funeral will be on 6th October at Chester Crematorium. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his wife and family.

Jim Hanson Memorial Extravaganza

Yesterday marked the traditional opening of the new chess season at the club with the Jim Hanson Memorial Extravaganza. Jim used to run this every year, so following his sad death last season, we now have a shield to be awarded to the winner in his remembrance.

Yesterdays tournament, a rapidplay with 15 minutes on the clock over 5 rounds, was well attended with 21 participants. It was won by Ifan, his second win in three years!

 Round 2 in progress

To make it a special occasion, some sandwiches were available.

Jim Hanson Memorial Extravaganza

Sadly, Jim Hanson passed away last season. He organized our annual season opening rapidplay competition, fondly known as Jim's Extravaganza. This year's competition is dedicated to his memory, and will take place at the Drovers Arms on Wednesday 30th August at 7.00pm. We hope to provide something of a buffet to make it a special event. Please join us for what should be a fun evening.

UPDATE: We will be starting at 7.00pm, not half-past!

Ifan Rathbone-Jones receiving the award for best player in the Wirral League, division 3.

Well done to Ifan, who is now the second highest rated player in the club!
